Keep the photos coming. The Duffy's Tavern picture is priceless. Do you have any of the Lone Ranger pictures from Brace Beemer and the man before him? Is there a picture of the whole Richard Diamond cast?

Thanks again for keeping the genre alive.

Hi Greg,

I am a long time Sirius Radio Classics listener and am starting to enjoying this new format, albeit bitter sweet (I am enjoying your show but do miss the old host and a set schedule for serials), change is difficult sometimes. Smile

I just had a question/comment. Prior to XM, when a show was aired the display would read what show it was along with the episode name and sometimes listed the guest star and year. Will this feature come back? I really enjoyed all that info.

Thanks for all the great times that my 12 yr old son, husband and I get to share while we listen to these wonderful family shows. Keep up the great work!!!

Cree,

Thank you for your comments, I appreciate them.
The problem with the display is the limited amount of space. Since many folks listening are new to Old Time Radio, we always make sure the series title is shown as well as the lead actor. Also some radios have a function that allows you to set it so it alerts you when your favorite song or artist are playing on another channel. In the Radio Classics world, song is series title (Dragnet for example) and artist is lead actor(Jack Webb). This way if you set it to always let you know when Webb is playing, it will alert you whether it is for Dragnet, Pat Novak For Hire, Escape, etc. The episode title would be no help with such a function.

I do make sure though that the episode title is mentioned at the beginning and end of every episode by the original announcer (or by me).

Again thank you for your comments and glad to hear your son and husband are enjoying the channel as well.

Greg.

Hi, Greg and Gang! As I said before, Greg, you HAVE MY HEART for playing "The Damned Don't Cry" with one of my 2 favorite actresses, namely, Joan Crawford. I don't give a rat's behind what her slimy daughter wrote about her. She waited until her mother died (5 days before my grandmother, by the way) and then wrote this piece of sewage. Joan wasn't even there to defend herself.
ANYWAY ... I Had a particularly bad night Sunday so when I heard "TDDC," was as happy as a fly on a COW! I ended up tossing and turning and listening to almost everything that followed "TDDC."
TO Cree: First of all, it's GREAT your 12-year-old son listens to and enjoys our station. It's his generation that will keep the genre going and that's a good thing. He'll have interesting things for "show and tell" and to share with his classmates - something better than those blasted videogames.
Also, Cree: If you really want to know the content of a show, you can go to www.radiogoldindex.com. Once on that website, go to "Get Program Information" and you'll see a list of the alphabet. Go to the letter, say D for Dragnet, and then look for the date. It's a tad time-consuming but it's worth it if you really want to know what you're about to hear. I do this when the new schedule comes out; that's how I found out last week that Greg programmed a Joan Crawford "goodie" this week. And with the repeating of shows, I can hear it whenever I like several times during the week. It's really cool.
Whatever you do, Cree (ang gang), enjoy yourself. I'm even planning to listen to Old Time Radio at night after I'm done with the dinenr dishes, instead of watching TV. I think TV is too stimulating and I have enough trouble sleeping. The radio is like having your mother read you a story. If I fall asleep, it's partially because I get up between 5 and 6 AM every day. That'll do it every time!
I'm not telling you or anyone else to listen to something other than Classic Radio - Greg has a wife and 2 little girls to support - but there is so much choice on Sirius and XM, it's AMAZING! In additon to classic radio, I enjoy classical music, music of the 1940s, 1960s and 1970s, book radio, Catholic radio, country music radio consedrvative talk radio plus "blue colllar comedy." And it's all there just for the dialing and listening! How cool is that?

Bob

Greg,

Glad to see that next weeks schedule is out. I take it you having received the right to play "The Lone Ranger" yet. I hope you get it soon. I miss listening to it. I hope they realize that it's a part of Radio History. Tell them that we need our Kemosabe.

One of the things you did last week that I really liked and was helpful was after the show Gunsmoke last week you mentioned that the actress who played a certain part was Virginia Christine, and you mentioned that she played Mrs. Olsen the Folgers coffee lady on the commercials. That helps me remember and picture the person and who they are. Keep that up please.

Also, if it's alright How about if we dedicate next weeks Dragnet shows to the four Police men who where killed in Oakland, California?

Bob

Opps,

I forgot to ask. I see that The Lux Radio Theatre on September 13, 1943, did Phantom of The Opera. What are the chances of you playing that?

Bob, not sure what you are referring to. The Lone Ranger appears nearly every week on the channel. Too much in my opinion, but I am sure I am in the minority with THAT! Smile

Jeff,

As I have stated recently, The Lone Ranger is not on the channel until our content provider gives us an "all clear" as they are in discussions with the owners of the series.

That is what Bob was referring to. (Guess the upside it this is a good time for you being a non-Lone Ranger fan Smile _

Hi, Gang! Next week, run, don't walk and take your phone off the hook to listen to "Donovan's Brain." I've heard it a dozen times at least and yet whenever it's on radio, I listen and next week is no exception. The story is terrific and Orson's rendition is amazing.
If you haven't already, then by all means do the same (run, don't walk, and turn off your phone) to hear this week's airings of "The Damned Don't Cry" and "The Return of the Native." Both are so well done that I plan to listen to them every time they're on this week. THANK YOU, GREG, for such a terrific week this week and next.
I have something else to suggest but the train just went by (I lost my train of thought) so I'll have to send it in my next missive. Meanwhile, enjoy OUR station!

Matt Pelc

Greg, anything we can do to help with the Lone Ranger? Can we email someone and tell them of the demand for the Lone Ranger?

Since their is a void on the western schedule may I suggest more Gunsmoke? One can never get too much Gunsmoke!!!

Greg,

No, I didn't realize there were issues and The Lone Ranger was on a "hiatus". Thanks for setting me straight. I agree with Matt, more Gunsmoke would suit me fine too!

Thanks for all your work and for the blog, it is nice to know I am not the only one who enjoys OTR.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the Jack Benny Show you ran on this week. His parody of The Whistler was so funny and so dead on that I'll never be able to listen to the real "Whistler" with a straight face again.

My favorite shows are Jack Benny, Dragnet, Gunsmoke and any episode of The Shadow with Orson Welles. And XM164 is my favorite channel.
