I just learned that many of you are not going to the blog site directly as I mention on the air but rather use a feed reader to access the blog. This only shows you my postings and not the rest of the page which includes the link to the weekly schedules. So it explains how why I was puzzled that some of you insist it is hard to find the schedule each week, or ask me why I post it so late.

You see, I usually add it by Tuesday (Wednesday at the latest) but I guess not all of you are going to this direct link to the schedule here.

I will try now to also put the schedule into a new posting as soon as it is ready so the feed reader folks can see it ASAP.

Sorry about this.

Greg.

Hi, Greg and Gang! Greg, YOU HAVE MY HEART! You remembered Joan Crawford's birthday with a presentation of "The Damned Don't Cry." She also did Heinrik Ibsen's "A Doll's House" with Basil Rathbone that was very, very good. Joan Crawford and her nemsis, Bette Davis, are 2 of my favorite actresses - don't forget Bette Davis' birthday (Gregory Peck's, too) - April 5.
Knowing you're playing a Joan Crawford special next week keeps me from reading you the riot act this week for playing TOO MUCH COMEDY. I'm NOT a fan of Jerry Lewis but I admit this weeks' show was more witty than silly. I also love the show, "The Unexpected." That was really neat - you may play more of those shows again any time! Next week's schedule looks particularly "delicious" and I needed something good too look forward to. At first, we thought my sister had ovarian cancer. Turns out that's NOT the case; instead, she has an ovarian cyst the size of a grapefruit. The ovarian test cancer blood test came back NORMAL. She sill has to have the cyst removed but that's better than cancer. I've been through that once already - prostate cancer with my father. He's fine --- he's 82 and is in better shape than I am. But it was not easy - 5 months after his experience, my mother died. So 1991 is NOT my favorite year. This is why Classic Radio helps me - it gets me through the tough times. We didn't have it in 1991, though, and I'm not sure it would have helped, truthfully. The only thing I actually remember from 1991 besides my 2 sad events was the Clarence Thomas hearings! ANYWAY... Keep up the good work, Greg! You KNOW you have a fan in me!

Timothy,

It normally runs every week but it is currently on a, hopefully brief, hiatus as our content provider works with the series owners to confirm the proper broadcasting rights.

Don

Rosemary, As our virtual group gathers around the old Philco or Magnavox (like the cabinet model I refinished and had the radio repaired) we have a few minutes to escape and I for one enjoy the time greatly. When things feel tough for you and your family please remember there are some folks out here who are pulling for you. My parents are gone but I remember the days of worry and concern.

Wednesday I will be without XM164 for 650 miles as I drive a rental truck from Northern Virginia to Chattanooga. The dog will be in the front seat with me and I'll have to talk to her for company. It will be a long day.

Hi, Gang! Thanks, Don, for your kind thoughts, I'm really OK -- it was just tough when I thought Robin had cancer. She's fine, though; we just have to get her through the surgery to remove the cyst.
Anyway, I'm glad the Lone Ranger will be back soon ... I've missed '...and a hardy Hi-O Silver!"
By the way, Gang, make sure to read Gerald Nachman's "Raised on Radio." I"m reading a few pages a day and it's so wonderful. For those of us who love Old Time Radio but who didn't necessarily grow up with it, this is a marvelous window on what the era was likme and what the stars and shows were like.
Don - if you have time, then get an old-fashioned cassette deck that lets you record from the source and record the programs (I still have an AM/FM radio/cassette/phonograph/CD player system and I used to make tapes from whichever source I was usng. My car still has a cassette deck - it's a 1997 Chrysler Cirrus LX). If that's too much or too time consuming, then order some CDs from Radio Spirits. 650 miles is a LONG haul; at least you'll have your Baby! More tomorrow. Take care, Gang, and please be careful, Don, on your long drive.

Roger Reini

I noticed that the schedule for this upcoming week features Michael Redgrave in an installment of Studio One. It has become timely, although for very unfortunate reasons: his granddaughter, Natasha Richardson, died this week after a skiing accident.

Roger,

Yes indeed it was one of those odd coincidences. I even had planned to speak about his talented family, now that will be much more somber.

I loved hearing Screaming Woman on Suspense this morning! One of my Top 5 Suspense episodes.

What I love about that episode is that after everything happens and the little girl is vindicated and the lady is dug up, she calls her friend and tells him the screaming woman was dug up and their fort was uncovered. It was the perfect ending. Just like little kids who have something extraordinary happen, tomorrow is another day.

Thanks for playing that outside of the usual Thanksgiving playing Greg.

Bob

Greg,

I was listening to Gunsmoke today on my way home from work, and I was wondering if that was Parley Baer who played Mayor Roy Stoner on the Andy Griffith show. Was that him on Gunsmoke? I know that I heard Howard McNear who played Floyd the Barber on the also on the Andy Griffith show. I think he played Doc. I know you told me that Howard McNear is ALL OVER old time radio.

Can someone alos tell me on The Green Hornet why he wanted people to think he was a "Bad" guy? Was it so he could get closer to bad eliment?

Tim Lones

I'm not Greg, but Parley Baer was both on the radio Gunsmoke and the Andy Griffith..I can't say for sure about the Green Hornet, but I think it was a combination of wanting to ingratiate himself with the "bad element" and also to hide his identity of Britt Reid more securely..

Tim, thanks for the help.

Bob you correct as Tim confirmed, Parley Baer was indeed the Mayor of Mayberry, he also was neighbor Darby on The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet (TV version).

Unlike some folks like Matt Cvetic in I Was A Communist For the FBI or Philip Gault in The Whisperer; The Green Hornet didn't actually want to be thought of as a bad guy most of the time he just (as Tim said) wanted to hide his identity. It was the shadowy behavior and the mask that had him mistaken for the bad guy by the cops (the same problem impacted his great-uncle, The Lone Ranger).

Bob and Helen Straughn

We enjoy BOX 13 when you get a chance to play it, and hearing it this morning was great. We do have a couple of questions, if anyone knows:
- Was Uncle Roger voiced by Hugh Beaumont (Beaver's dad)? It sure did sound like him.
- Why didn't Marsha just go ahead and marry Charles? She would have inherited the money after her wedding. She had no need to frame the uncle....

Thanks for all the good info about the shows. We sure enjoy our Old Time Radio!

Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar, with Bob Bailey, is one of my favorites. Maybe I have missed it, but I never hear you say much about Bob Bailey's Life, death, etc like you do some of the other stars.

best way to lose abdominal weight

Hey - nice blog, just looking around some blogs, seems a pretty nice platform you are using. I'm currently using Wordpress for a few of my sites but looking to change one of them over to a platform similar to yours as a trial run. Anything in particular you would recommend about it?
