I think Veronica Lake was great in " Sullivan's Travels " , my favorite movie . If you ever see it , you will see where the title of the " O, Brother , Where Art Thou " movie comes from . That was the name of the movie that Joel McCrea was going to make but but never did .

Also , I heard years ago that Alan Ladd was so short that he had to stand on a box to be taller than his female co-stars in the movies . Of course he had no problems on radio !

Loving the pictures of the ladies! I'm a 38 yr old dad and keep pointing to the ladies from the "Golden Age" as examples of what a beautiful woman should look like for my daughters. No stick figures and no need to show too much skin! Beauty shines through.

Greg, I am sure there are probably some contractual issues but any chance we could listen to some vintage Paul Harvey to honor his great life? I am 30 years old and was astonished to learn awhile before his death that Paul was in radio for 70 years! It is amazing that you have someone stretching back to radio's golden age who was still popular and relevant up until his death.

On summer vacation from school I would stop what I was doing to tune in to WJR-AM 760 in Detroit to listen to his news. Even not understanding everything he talked about as a kid, I loved it nonetheless.

I know this probably can't happen because his stuff is probably owned by ABC News, but it would be great to here Paul in something during the golden age.

Pretty sure I've heard The James Clayton Matter (YTJD) redone with Bob Bailey in the 5 part series with Parely Baer playing the evil doctor (can't remember the episode name though), and on the The Midnight Sun Matter episode, sure sounded like Cosmo G. Spacely in the beginning, but he was done by Mel Blanc and they didn't mention his name at the end.

Greg, too bad about not being able to use Paul Harvey stuff, but is there any way you can throw an occasional old news program in the mix? Did anyone even record nightly news programs then? It might be interesting to hear how stories were reported on the radio. If they are not available for broadcast, do you know anywhere they can be found?

I'm as straight as an arrow but the pic of Veronica Lake this wek and the pic of Elizabeth Taylor last week were lovely. I also think the gentleman (I refuse to call him a "guy") who is showing these pictures to his daughters as examples of beauty without looking like a woman of the night is absolutely marvelous?! What an excellent father he must be!
Some people may complain, Greg, about repeat episodes (I'm thinking of the person who said he recalled hearing the "James Clayton Matter" of YTJD before ... so did I) but I don't mind hearing them again. I know a year has elapsed and the episodes are usually excellent. I LOVE "Going UP," the story of Elijah Otis, and I really enjoyed Liz Taylor and Donald Crisp (and, yes, even Mickey Rooney) in "National Velvet and the aforementioned Miss Taylor in "I, Mary Peabody."
Unless I was asleep at the wheel, I think I missed any mention last month of Joseph Kearn's birthday. I looked him up on IMDB and, according to them, he was born 2/12/1907 and he died at age 55 on 2/17/1962 of a cerebral hemorrhage. If you didn't pay homage to Mr. Kearns, I'll forgive you --- you have a year to prepare for next year. He did SO much for radio that he deserves all the recognition we can give him.

Who was complaining? I merely stated a fact that I thought they remade the episode into a 5 part one later with Bob Bailey, and I was right, it was "The Shepperd Matter" aired 4-16-1956 thru 4-20-1956


Pretty sure making an observation is not complaining..at least it didn't used to be.

Benny and Mary going to the Oscars was a funny show and "Knute Rockne, All American" was a pleasure to hear in traffic. The pictures of the announcers don't match the voices LOL except for Don Wilson. I love all the pictures you put up. It reall adds flavor to the shows when I listen to them. Programming this week was great! I just discovered your blog site and have been enjoying past comments and pictures. Like many others, I listen to Radio Classics on my drive to and from work and, until recently, I was also able to listen on-line at my office. I am not embarrassed to state that I am addicted to this channel! However, Sirius has removed my favorite channel from on-line listening. Do you know why it was removed and if there are plans to return Sirius 118 to on-line listening? Otherwise, I may be forced to give up my desk job and take up over-the-road trucking to ensure I never miss a program!

Tonja, in order to listen to XM164 at work, I've set up my home receiver to feed Windows Media Encoder on my home computer. Since it's a private stream just for my use, I don't think I'm violating any copyrights.

Greg, How will you handle the deleted hour on Sunday? Will you go from Behind the Mike directly to Pat Novak, or will Pat and Mr. & Mrs. North be skipped that one time?

When I originally commented I clicked the "Notify me when new comments are added" checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment.
Is there any way you can remove me from that service?
