Well gee whiz Greg, do you have the 5 part episode of Johnny dollar called The McCormack Matter (aired Oct 3-7 1955)? Where one of the characters says gee whiz about a million times through the whole case. I listened to to over the past weekend, and gee whiz it was a good one, hope you have it in your inventory and can play it soon for the other Dollar fans.

Hi Greg,
I really enjoy the Johnny Dollar shows.
I like the shows that Bob Bailey did the best.
Keep up the marathons for Johnny Dollar.

I agree - Bob Bailey IS Johnny Dollar.
I'm also so grateful to Greg for remembering Eve Arden's birthday and is presenting a 2-hour marathon to honor this auspicious occasion. I listened to OMB today and was delighted once again at her sardonic wit.
It's also nice to be able to hear a "Thin Man" episode.
Finally, I'm THRILLED to hear "Don Winslow of the Navy"; I've never heard them before so I'm really looking forward to that; I was in the Navy (actually the Reserves) for 10 years.

Greg, I know that the golden age of radio is cited as ending on September 30, 1962 with final broadcasts of "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar" and "Suspense". Do you have access to/can you play those final episodes, maybe as a back to back presentation? Keep up the great work. I've had XM since before Radio Classics joined, and Radio Classics is one of my favorite channels.

I've listened to this week's (April 19-25) "My Favorite Husband" episode several times and I should have been upset but I wasn't because it was too funny to do anything but laugh.
Why would I be upset? Well, I lost my mother nearly 18 years ago and it still bothers me sorely. Therefore, anything negative about mothers, especially at this time (Mother's Day), makes me crazy. But Lucy was so funny and the whole eposide was so very well done I couldn't do anything but laugh and enjoy it tremendously, which I did. I do admit I think it's a bit stereotypical - you know, mothers-in-law and also adult children and their mothers having a negative relationship. But, as I said, this episode of MFH was so well done and so funny I just couldn't get upset even if I tried. That takes TALENT! Thanks, Greg, for playing it and for letting me laugh about something that I normally find irritating and painful. That takes talent, too.

I agree: Bob Bailey was the best Johnny Dollar. I love the five-episode marathons. Did he perform in many of the half-hour format shows?
I think "My Favorite Husband" shows Lucy's true comedic genius. So many of the laughs on her TV shows boiled down to sight gags (which she executed brilliantly), but her radio work reveals her great timing.

Fabulous schedule again! I love Johnny Dollar! Keep 'em coming! Bob Bailey was so talented! Thanks for honoring Eve Arden's birthday, too. Our Miss Brooks is very funny. Arden had a knack for being a wisegirl. I am so glad you have Another Thin Man from Lux Radio. The Thin Man movies are my favorites, and it is wonderful to hear the amazing William Powell and Mynra Loy on the radio. I don't think I've heard either of them in more than a few radio episodes. Thanks again Greg!

John, Mandy, Rosemary:

Bob Bailey portrayed the Man with the Action-Packed Expense Account from October 3, 1955 to Nov. 27, 1960, or five full seasons. Four of those 5 years he starred in the 30-minute episodes.

The show got a complete "makeover" in 1955, and the other
Key talents who (with Bob Bailey) took it to new heights were Director/producer Jack Johnstone, writers Les Crutchfield, Robert
Ryf, John Dawson & Jack Johnstone, and the wonderful theme
and mood music composed and conducted by Amerigo Marino.

Mr. Marino's background music sets the tone throughout this
5-year Golden period. Take a closer listen to the next Bob
Bailey-era show, and hear how vital the musical component is.

David

I agree that YT,JD was a timeless and wonderful show and that Bob Bailey was the best Johnny Dollar. I always try to pick out who the bad guy/gal will turn out to be in Episode 5 and I don't know if I've ever been right yet! Great writing, and acting.

And since in last week's blog entry, I said that all those voices were believable matches with all those photos, I have to say, Bob Bailey's face isn't a match for me with his Johnny Dollar voice. Oh, I believe Greg, of course, on the identity of the photo. That's just not the face I picture when I hear Bob voice Johnny.

By the way, I'm looking for a job with an action-packed expense account like Johnny's, and it's not working out so well. I'd even settle for the prices Johnny gets to pay, you know, 80 cent cab rides and 12 dollar nights in luxury hotels!

Hi, Gang! Make sure to listen to the 2-hour "Our Miss Brooks" marathon - it's really wonderful.
Also, this week's episode of "The Shadow" features ORSON THE GREAT! I believe his birthday is coming up soon .... sometime next month. I'm sure Greg will do a marathon featuring this wonderful man! I sure hope so. If he does, you can bet your sweet bippie I'll listen!
Anyway, enjoy the OMB marathon - I admit, I'm a die-hard fan of the show and, as such, I like sharing it with my "gang." That's all for now, Gang! Good night. I need to find out what I have to look forward to when I go to bed and leave my radio on. "The Shadow," is on but right now, I"m watching "D-Life," a show for people with diabetes, which I have. It's showing me how to make sugar-free CHEESECAKE, which I love dearly but can't have unless it's low-carb, low sugar. But enough of that...Happy Listening!

Regarding "The Todd Matter" on YTJD, I think the role of Mrs Stromberg, the landlady, was played by Bernadine Flynn, more famous as Sade in Vic and Sade. She may have also whispered the role of the dying victim..."Bill..." she said with her last breath.

Hey Greg,

Thanks for YT,JD. Always a hit in this house! And thanks too for The Thin Man. I own all the DVD's and when I close my eyes I can "see" all the scenes as I listen.

Another blockbuster week! And I never thought I'd say that without hearing more than one episode of my counterpart.

Cheers!

Jim

I've noticed on a very few programs, (the last being Father Knows Best last week), the playback seems a little slow...everybody sounds lower pitched. Can you correct that? Many of the newer pro CD recorders contain a "pitch" adjustment to correct that.

A question...I remember my mother listening to a program on CBS radio which came on our local station right before Linkletter's "House Party". (Can you get House Party?) Anyway, in that program before HP there was a character named "Hal Craig". I seem to remember him as a bad guy in that continual series. Anybody have any ideas?

Also, since several of my other favorites have "gone away" as a result of XM/Sirius merger, I suspect CH-164 will also. Call it a negative view if you wish, but I have no confidence in those highly educated and skilled Sirius decision makers. In fact, I'm totally impressed!

Apple now has Rhapsody as an app, which is a great start, but it is currently hampered by the inability to store locally on your iPod, and has a dismal 64kbps bit rate. If this changes, then it will somewhat negate this advantage for the Zune, but the 10 songs per month will still be a big plus in Zune Pass' favor. star trek reviews

That is a great turkey hat. I wished I had the time to make them . I ended up buying the Turkey Hats instead, because I had needed a dozen. However, for Christmas we did make our own santa hats.

You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be really something which I think I would never understand. It seems too complicated and very broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!

Though I would've loved it much more if you added a relevant video or at least pictures to back up the explanation, I still thought that your write-up quite helpful. It's usually hard to make a complicated matter seem very easy. I enjoy your weblog and will sign up to your feed so I will not miss anything. Fantastic content

Great post, bookmarked, will be back later. On totally unrelated note, I'm becoming addicted to the read-it-later plugin on firefox. I mostly skim articles until I move on to the next one and usually if an article strikes me as interesting I send it to my read it later list, which is growing exponentially and sadly I'm having difficulty keeping up with. Well I'm adding this on there, but hopefully I'll get more time to read it further - as well as subscribe to your rss feed!
