Here are the links for the schedule for the week of:

November 8th to the 14th, 2009

Sirius 118 XM 164 PDF Version and the Excel Version or the direct link to the page HERE

To mark the week featuring Veteran's Day (November 11th) we have two different blocks - the two-hour star-studded Bing Crosby led Command Performance episode, "Victory Extra "from August of 1945. The second block features Lux Radio Theatre's version of the WWII picture, "The Navy Comes Through", followed by The Cavalcade of America's retelling of the Allied invasion of Sicily. And finally it is Norman Corwin's end of the war special, "Fourteen August" hosted by Orson Welles.

We also have birthday week celebrations for Dick Powell (Rogue's Gallery, Richard Diamond); Robert Louis Stevenson (his stories on Murder At Midnight, The Weird Circle); Sherwood Schwartz (Brady Bunch creator - still with us at 93 - Alan Young and Bob Hope's Show which he wrote for).

Also born this week and honored; writer Robert A. Arthur (Mysterious Traveler, The Sealed Book, Murder By Experts); producer/director Norman MacDonnell (Philip Marlowe, Escape, Gunsmoke, Have Gun, Will Travel) and actress June Havoc, turning 96 (Suspense's hour long version of Eve: The Black Angel).

I love these photos, pictures, posters, etc. More is better. When I was a little boy (in the 50's) and would go to the Movies I would look at the Stills that they had displayed announcing the Movie the was now showing and the ones soon to come, it always seemed to give them an air of reality. The same is true when I see these pictures and listen to the programs in which these characters are involved. Thank you for adding a level of detail that is going way above and beyond the coordination of the programming on XM Radio Classics Ch.164 or as you refer to it as "The Channel"

I love hearing the personal histories of the actors and actresses performing in the wonderful radio shows -- along with viewing the photos and putting the voices to the faces -- indeed just as fascinating as the shows and I thank Greg Bell again for pursuing and providing this information to his listeners. This week I watched video "Good Night, and Good Luck" re Edward R. Murrow & "jr. senator" Joseph McCarthy. Made me wish I was born earlier to witness transition from radio to tv. I was impressed that Mr. Murrow's radio show "Hear it now," moved to tv as "See it now" & became the original Sunday news show...

Would it ever be possible to hear any of the old news shows?

As a veteran myself (Navy) and the granddaughter, daughter and niece of veterans (Navy and Marines) and as someone who is grateful to all who served and sacrificed, I laud and applaud you, Greg, for your Veterans Day special. Thank you so much!

"Fourteen August" with Orson Wells is a must hear! With Corwin's great writing and Orson's great voice, it is really a great celebration of the end of the war. If you have never heard it before, I highly suggest you listen closely to it. I really enjoy listening to again each time it's played.

Carolyn,

Thanks, while this is a public forum, you might get me in a little trouble linking to other OTR sites. Please folks police yourselves on this so I can keep the comments open to all.

Thanks.

I'd just like to say Happy Veterans Day to all who served on here and to the families of those who were gone for a long time and those who never came back.

My fraternity brother, Sgt. Bryan K. Burgess, was KIA in Iraq on November 9, 2006 and the anniversary is tomorrow. So Veterans Day will always have special meaning for me.

I miss you Burge and that's why I named my baby boy after you!

greg,

You never did mention if a write in (email in) campaign would help with the Lone Ranger and Sgt. Preston.

I know you may not want to post it here to avoid any issues which may result in such a campaign but if you email it to me I will email in my 2-cents....

It is really terrible to hold them hostage.

Yes, I would hate to see this blog go away. It has been great and informative, among meeting new friends with their interests. Goes to show that everyone has their own favorites.

Besides suspence, Greg has given me the best gift, this week. Not one, but 2 episodes of Richard Diamond. For those of you who do not care for detective shows, I urge you to give his a try anyway. His sarcasm and sharp witt is great for his time, and it is a bonus when he breaks out into a song near the end of his story. It was quite unexepected the first time I listened to his episodes. These songs are way before my era, but what a fantastic voice.

Since I've had Channel 164, Some of my favorites have branched out from the comedies to shows like The Shadow, Boston Blackie, Gunsmoke, Richard Diamond, I Was a Communist For the FBI, Tales Of The Texas Rangers and a few others I am forgetting right now. I appreciate Greg and the Blog very much..

Thank you, Greg, for playing "A Miracle in the Rain," "14 August (with my beloved ORSON)" and "The NAVY Comes Through." Terrific shows all.
My condolences, Matt Pelc RE: Your loss in the Iraq War. It was great you named your new baby for your friend - it's a real honor for the baby and for your friend.
Thank you to all who served and to the families and friends of the fallen.

Oh, Greg - you've got 2 weeks to the day to prepare for another radio milestone --- the birth of the GREAT John Dehner (Nov. 23, 1915 - 2 months after my Uncle Harold). I'm looking forward to a plethora of programs featuring this truly marvelous actor. You did such a marvelous job for William Conrad - I hope you'll do the same for John.

Great schedule, Greg. This evening (Monday) at about 7p, after This Is Your FBI, when you were billboarding the J. Carroll Niash programs, you gave me a little chuckle when you mentioned he was the "lovable Irishman" in Life With Luigi. I said to myself, "The Irishman with-a the Italian acceent." XM164/S118 is my favorite channel. Keep it up.

Bill,

Yup, if you see J. Carroll Naish you never would have guessed he was of Irish descent.

Ray Faiola

Greg - regarding your musing on the actor playing Angelino on the "Bakery" episode of RICHARD DIAMOND - it was Jay Novello, who made quite a few appearances on the program.

Greg: Always appreciate your comments re some of the characters "appearing" in the variuos shows. I am sure that I heard Dragnet's Jack Webb in this weeks Damon Runyon Theatre "Dark Dolores". A very distinctive voice.
Keep up the good work.
